Executives
Richard Shaw worked in the performing arts for 15 years. In addition to working for The National Theatre and the Arts Council of Great Britain he was the Deputy Chief Executive of English National Ballet for 8 years and the Director of Public Affairs for the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden for 3 years during the refurbishment period and over the re-opening. He joined Lion Television in 2001 and has produced a wide range of popular and specialist factual television on a wide range of subjects from literature to travel. Recent series include The Readers and Writers Roadshow (BBC4, series I and II), The Big Read; Battle of the Books (BBC4, series I and II), Mediterranean Tales (BBC4 / BBC2). The Book Show (BBC4 13 x 30) and Dickens in America (BBC4 / BBC2, 10 x 30) and Daniel Libeskind: The Making of an Architect (BBC4 / BBC2). In 2008 he is Co-Producer on Tanaz Eshaghian’s film Be Like Others, a portrait of a generation of young Iranians undergoing gender reassignment surgery in Iran (in competition at Sundance in 2008/BBC2), Executive Producer of the revival of the travel series Rough Guide (Five) and Series Producer of a new cooking series Chinese Food Made Easy (BBC2). He’s currently at work on his first non-fiction book.
