Simon Welton Entertainment Executive

Simon joined Lion as Entertainment Executive in 2008, following on from his role as Series Producer of All Or Nothing, a big Saturday Night Entertainment pilot for ITV1.

Simon began his career in 1996 when he was one of just 4 people taken from over 2000 applicants to join Planet 24’s Graduate Production Trainee scheme. He then gradually rose through the ranks of their flagship show – Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast, eventually becoming the show’s Editor. He was also a producer of the very first UK series of Big Brother, again for Channel 4.

In subsequent years he took various roles on the show, including producing the live eviction shows, Series Producing Big Brother’s Little Brother and Series Editor. Simon has also worked on Comedy and Chat shows, and Series Produced Soccer Aid for ITV, an event in 2006 which saw celebrities and football legends including Robbie Williams and Diego play a football match in aid of UNICEF at Old Trafford.

He loves nothing more than a big live show, and has executive produced several huge event projects including The Match for Sky One, and The Games for Channel 4 (in which he oversaw a group of celebrities as they undertook 3 months of training in various sports before competing, live, in 10 consecutive nights of sporting competition).

He was also part of the team that recreated a Russian space training camp just outside of Ipswich, and therein managed to fool members of the public into thinking that not only had they been flown to Russia to be trained as astronauts, but that they were then sent up into space for Channel 4’s Space Cadets.

Before joining Lion he was working as a Commissioning Editor for Channel 4, overseeing Big Brother’s Little Brother.
