DISPATCHES: lABOUR'S GAMBLING ADDICTION

Synopsis:

With the Government set to announce the site of Britain's first super casino on 30 January, journalist Antony Barnett and the Lion Dispatches team spent over three months investigating the cosy relations between ministers and powerful gambling industry bosses.

A hidden wave of casino applications was uncovered and gambling minister Richard Caborn was forced to admit for the first time that government plans could result in an increase in gambling addicts.

The investigation hit the front pages when the team were leaked a secret report revealing that Police feared new super-casino’s posed a risk to vulnerable groups and would spark a wave of anti-social behaviour.
